No wonder Piazzale Michelangelo is highly recommended to visit, especially during sunset. The sun rests gently over Florence, giving the city a beautiful gold tint. You can see the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo and Uffizi from way up there. Well worth the walk.
What I love about Piazzale Michelangelo also is the very fun vibe. Families hang out and taking pictures, couples talking about everything and nothing, friends with drinks and chips, artists sketching the gorgeous view, photographers setting up to capture the sights. Everyone just seems to be in a good mood, sitting on the steps and relaxing.
On a side note, I always look at this picture with amusement. This was the day that my friend Jen and I walked from Via Salviati (that’s one end of Florence!) to the laundrette to the train station to Academia (did not go in) to Uffizi (went in and walked through the rooms) to Ponte Vecchio to Piazzale Michelangelo. It’s no easy feat going up by food because it’s very steep! So after a lot of pit stops and the promise of gelato when we got up to the Piazzale, we made it! It forever amuses me to that we walked that much and that far! But again, well worth it!
